Press Release Body = San Antonio, TX, March 21, 2006 -- Readers looking for a new voice in medieval fantasy epics might want to try a book by Jon Baxley from Five Star Publishing (Thomson/Gale). Publishers Weekly and Library Journal have both given this rollicking tale a thumbs up for its colorful cast of characters, nonstop, rapid-fire action and compelling storyline. Romance readers and fans of historical books--especially those set in medieval Britain and Scotland--will likely find this a great read, too.
Library Journal said: \"This series opener...is a good choice for fans of epic-style sagas and medieval Scottish history.\" Publishers Weekly put it this way: \"A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley\'s fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain.\"
Though the 445 page book has yet to be released from Five Star (due April 5th), advanced reader copies have prompted a host of positive reviews on fantasy related websites and online bookstores such as Amazon and B&N. Readers can also get a short preview read from DearReader.com or download a four chapter eBook demo from Twilight Times Publishing.
Prepublication sales generated by those reviews have, according to the author, \"Exceeded my best estimates by a considerable margin.\" Baxley\'s marketing efforts have likely been enhanced by a long-standing reputation in the eBook realm where his first fantasy effort, an award winning eBook entitled The Scythian Stone, gained widespread exposure both in the US and European markets. A free downloadable copy of that eBook is available from the author\'s website at www.jonbaxley.com. The lavishly illustrated eBook version of Blackgloom will also be available in April from Twilight Times Publishing.
When asked what\'s next for The Blackgloom Bounty, Baxley replied, \"Two of the big four have reviewed it positively. If Kirkus and Booklist come through, that completes the Grand Slam of reviews. Several movie production companies are reading Blackgloom now, so time will tell on that score. I guess it\'s time to start practicing my autograph.\"
So it would seem. Does this mean Harry Potter has a new competitor? Perhaps, but Baxley has a long way to go to catch up with Potter\'s billionaire author.
